Coconut oil contains magnesium cocoate that serves as an anticaking agents and also serves as a hair conditioning agent.
It also contains Vitamin E. It contains 80% saturated fats that gives it a firm texture at cold and room temperatures. This fats are made from smaller molecules that is called fatty acids. It is a source of lower chain length of fatty acids like lauric acid, capric acid, myristic acid, and palmitic acid.

Coconut oil is a high saturated fats that have different effects in the body.

There are beliefs that the unique combination of fatty acids in the coconut oil may give positive effects on the human body. It can boost fat lost, improve heart health and help in the function of the brain. It encourages the body to burn fat and quickly convert it to energy for the brain and body. Coconut oil contains Medium - Chain Triglycerides ( MCTs ). It tends to go straight to the liver and the body uses them as a quick source of energy and turns them into ketones.

The special formulation of coconut oil is made of 100% medium - chain triglycerides ( MCTs ). MCTs is hard for the body to convert into stored fat and it is easier to burn off and it has a shorter chemical structure than the other fats. It is also quickly absorb by the body. It travels to the liver after digestion where they are immediately used for energy. Because it is quickly absorbed form it promotes satiety and it also prevents fat storage.

There are studies showing that MCTs are easily digested and rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream from GI tract upon consumption. It is efficiently utilized by the body for energy production that improves the performance of the body.

A study conducted to animals in 2009, finds out that MCTs present in coconut oil may help preserve insulin sensitivity that may help to control the blood sugar.

The MCTs in coconut in the coconut oil hels to increase the blood concentration of keton bodies. Ketones have a powerful benefits to the brain. Ketones can also treat epilepsy and alzheimer's disease.

There are research shows that adding coconut oil to the diet dramatically reduces the rate of the seizures of children with epilepsy even for those who are haven't succeeded from multiple types of drugs.

It may also boost brain function and help avoid alzheimer's disease because of the ketones that can provide an alternative energy source for the malfunctioning brain cells that may reduce its symptoms.

Coconut oil also contains lauric acid. This acid is absorbed more slowly by the body and metabolized like the other long-chain fatty acids. When the body digest lauric acid, it will forms a substance that is called mono laurin. Mono laurin can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and even fungi.

There are research shows that the lauric acid can increase the production of mono laurin in the body, that enhances the antibacterial protection.

Virgin coconut oil is known to have antioxidant properties and it appeared to reduce stress. There are research that are proving that it could be useful in treating some kinds of depression. It is also found out that the virgin coconut oil has
anti - inflammatory and analgesic properties that can help to improve the immune health of the body.It also promotes speedy healing for wounds when it is applied. It also have antioxidants that helps to have a healthier skin.

There are arguments against coconut oil because of its high saturated fat content that makes a controversy. A Cochrane review in June 15 found out that in some ways saturated fats is less harmful than previously believed.

But there are studies that proving that adding coconut oil in the diet raised total cholesterol HDL ( High Density Level ) and also the harmful LDL ( Low Density Level ) cholesterols. It was found out that the raise total of LDL cholesterol is similar degree as the other saturated fats like beef and palm oil. That's why coconut oil should not be viewed as a heart healthy food.

The American Heart Association ( AHA ) issued a scientific advisory statement on 2017 suggesting to limit all saturated fats for those at risk or have a heart disease. And coconut oil contains as many calories and total fats than the other fat sources.

Many studies are still needed for the coconut oil's health benefits. But for the skin care it really shows that it is effective.
